Formerly Silver Lake, the site is located in a valley in the Homewood neighborhood of Pittsburgh. The goal of Bi-parti-te system is to revitalize the valley and provide a "green backyard" to the existing Westinghouse Academy. This is achieved by providing an experiental circulation path that acts as the major site organization strategy. Two major systems at work managing the surface run-off are the bioswale system and the stepping landscape to slow the run-off and eventually collect it. This water is then cleaned using living machines to be provided in the hostel and the education center. Excess water is naturally cleaned using vegetated channels and further released into the Allegheny River.
