EXUVIAE: LUNAR GALA Pittsburgh PA

Fall + Spring 2016 | Independent

in collaboration w/ Fah Kanjanavanit & Jenny Wong

Exuviae, or "that which is stripped from the body" is the natural phenomenon of certain living organisms that shed their skin in order to grow. This line imagines how this phenomenon would be reinterpreted on the human body. Each piece emphasizes a specific part of the human body that exposes the exuviae of the model. The idea is for the runway model to capture the moment in time when the skin is being detached. Going from structural to free-flowing, the pieces represent different stages of the exuviae process; structure provides the exoskeleten before the skin being detached while the chaotic forms represent when the skin is already detached from the body.
